The Marketing Rule of Seven
The ‘Rule of Seven’ in marketing claims it takes an average of seven exposures to your marketing message before a prospect will make a purchase. Why does this old technique still work? The longer exposure gives you time to build up a relationship and trust. Repetition helps people to recognize your brand but you must also build a relationship with them. If you create powerful marketing materials and direct them toward your target audience over and over again, you’ve managed half the battle. The rest comes down to standing out amongst the crowd and creating need– two things that can be achieved through increased exposure and persistence.
The Memory Rule of Seven
A different ‘Rule of 7″ refers to the classic psychological studies that report people are better at remembering short sequences, or chunks, of information. The Magical Number 7 is the average number of digits that can be recalled in a sequence. What does this have to do with your marketing? It is a reminder to keep it short, sweet, and seen often.
